If you love visiting Island nations, then you will love the Reunion Island, located just east of Madagascar, it is often described as one of the best places to visit in Africa by tourists. While it might be small compared to other neighboring countries, its attractions are numerous; beaches, volcanoes, emerald forests and scenic views are some of its many attractions.
Another of Reunion gifts is the diversity of its culture, drawing from several countries from Africa and Europe. Most visits to Reunion Island are usually accompanied by great stories.
Located at the eastern part of the Island, the Le Piton de La Fournaise which translated to Peak of the furnace is one of Reunion’s major natural monument – it is amongst the world’s most active volcanoes, with its last major eruption starting in August 2006 and ending in January 2007.Cosidered a World Heritage site by UNESCO, it is mostly visited by pilgrims – welcoming thousands of people yearly.
Described by legend as “a father crying on the veil of her daughter fell into deep precipice” - from which it gets its name Voile de la Mariee (Bridal Veil Falls) - the group of waterfalls all chutes down high mountains to form a natural pool at the bottom.
Spending time in Reunion and not visiting the Saint-Paul Market makes the trip incomplete – the market is recognized as the island’s main shopping center. Located in at waterfront to the city, it is one of the few places you can get to experience Pristina in its raw form - expect to see items such as bags, foodstuff and art works. You can also get a taste of the local cuisine at one of its food stalls.
